Complete Eye Check-Up

Comprehensive assessment of overall eye health.

A thorough consultation that goes beyond a standard vision test – covering vision power, eye pressure, and a detailed assessment of overall eye health (including retina and optic nerve). Ideal for routine check-ups and early detection of any eye conditions.

What is complete eye check-up

A complete eye check-up is a full assessment of your overall eye health, covering not just your vision, but also eye pressure, and a detailed examination of the retina and optic nerve.
These check-ups help identify whether you need glasses or a change in prescription, whether recurring headaches or migraines may have an underlying eye-related cause, and can detect early signs of conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and glaucoma before they begin to affect your vision.

We recommend getting a complete eye check-up every 6 months, or sooner if you have any specific concerns.

Treatment

The consultation begins with a detailed review of your medical history, followed by a comprehensive examination covering your vision, eye pressure, and a thorough assessment of the retina and optic nerve. In case the initial diagnosis calls for further investigation, we will walk you through what is needed and plan the next steps before you leave.

Why should one get a complete eye check-up?

Getting a complete eye check-up every 6 months is good practice, much like a routine dental check-up.

That said, it is particularly recommended for those who haven’t had an eye check in the last 1-2 years, adults over 40, anyone with diabetes, hypertension, raised cholesterol, or thyroid conditions, those with recurring headaches or migraines, a family history of glaucoma or retinal disease, or anyone who has noticed a change in their vision or any other symptoms that concern them.

How is this different from a check-up at an optician’s store?
An optician’s check-up is limited to determining your prescription and whether you require glasses. It should not be considered an exhaustive examination of your overall eye health. Only an ophthalmologist is medically qualified to examine eye pressure, the retina, and the optic nerve, and to diagnose any underlying conditions or diseases if present.
Do I need to have a specific complaint to get one?
No. A complete eye check-up doesn’t require a specific complaint; the intention is simply to ensure your eye health is in good condition and to catch any symptoms that may need attention before they become a concern.
How long does a complete eye check-up take?
A complete eye check-up at our clinic typically takes about 45 minutes, depending entirely on the diagnosis.
How often should I get a complete eye check-up?
We recommend a visit every 6 months, or sooner if you have any specific concerns, especially for those with a diagnosis of diabetes, hypertension, or glaucoma.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Your current glasses or contact lenses, any previous eye prescriptions, a list of medications you are currently on, and any earlier eye reports if available.
What should I expect during the check-up?
We will begin by understanding your medical history and any concerns you may have, followed by a comprehensive examination. In some cases, dilating eye drops may be used to allow a more thorough examination of the retina; this is completely routine, though it may leave your vision slightly blurred for a few hours afterwards. Please plan your travel accordingly.
