What is squint
treatment

Squint (colloquially referred to as being cross-eyed) is a misalignment of the eyes where both eyes are unable to focus on the same point at the same time. It can be present from birth or even develop later in life.

Without early treatment, it can lead to complications like lazy eye or permanent vision loss in the affected eye, and can also impact one’s appearance.

Treatment

A detailed and comprehensive examination, conducted personally by Dr. Parekh over the course of 1-2 hours (excluding follow-up sessions, if required), covers a full review of the patient’s history, vision, and results of various tests and assessments to arrive at a complete diagnosis. Treatment is then matched to the severity of the condition and may range from specially prescribed glasses and targeted exercises to strengthen the eyes, to corrective surgery when non-invasive measures are unable to fix the condition.

At what age should a child first be examined for squint?
If any symptoms are observed or if there is a clear visible misalignment of the eyes, a squint consultation should be arranged as soon as possible. Dr. Parekh has treated patients as young as 6 months old.
The earlier the condition is identified and diagnosed, the better the chances of a complete recovery.
How do I know if my child has squint?
Common signs include one eye appearing to look in a different direction, the child tilting their head to see better, or complaints of double vision.
If you notice any of these, or your child mentions any discomfort with their vision, we would strongly recommend getting it formally checked - even if you’re not entirely sure.
Is squint only a cosmetic problem?
While squint can have a visible impact on one’s appearance, it is not only a cosmetic problem but an actual medical condition.
Which, if left untreated, can lead to lazy eye, double vision, or even permanent vision loss in the affected eye.
Can squint be treated at a later age in life?
Yes. While early treatment always helps achieve the best outcomes, squint can also be assessed and treated in adults through different treatment courses, depending on each individual case.
Does every squint case need surgery?
Not every squint case requires surgery. Based on the severity of the condition, it can also be managed with targeted exercises or specially prescribed glasses.
What does recovery look like after squint surgery?
Recovery from squint surgery is generally quite straightforward. Patients may experience mild redness and discomfort for a few days, but can typically resume normal activity within a week. Dr. Parekh personally handles all follow-up care to monitor progress and ensure a smooth recovery.
