What is glaucoma
treatment

Glaucoma is a condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, is gradually damaged over time. In most cases, this is caused by increased pressure within the eye and is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide.

The condition typically develops without noticeable symptoms, but if detected early, it can be effectively controlled, significantly reducing the risk of permanent vision loss.

The consultation begins with a detailed assessment of eye pressure and side vision to arrive at a clear diagnosis. Based on the findings, we will guide you on the right course of treatment and next steps, including referrals to leading specialists as needed.

Who should get a glaucoma examination?

We recommend a glaucoma examination for anyone with a family history of glaucoma, adults over 40, and those with risk factors such as diabetes, high eye pressure, or long-term steroid use. Since the condition develops without obvious symptoms, regular examinations are the only way to catch it early.

What are the signs of glaucoma?
In most cases, there are no obvious signs in the early stages, making it difficult to detect without a medical examination. As the condition worsens, it can cause a gradual loss of peripheral vision, which generally goes unnoticed until significant damage has already occurred.
Will I lose my sight if I have glaucoma?
Not necessarily. Most patients who are diagnosed early and monitored regularly are able to retain their vision. The risk of vision loss is significantly higher in cases that go undetected or untreated for a long period of time.
How often should I get a glaucoma check-up?
For those already diagnosed, we recommend a visit every 3-6 months to monitor the condition. For those with risk factors but no diagnosis, an annual check-up as part of a complete eye examination is advisable.
Can glaucoma affect anyone, or only older people?
While the risk increases with age, glaucoma can affect people of all ages. Those with a family history of glaucoma, diabetes, or high eye pressure are at a higher risk, regardless of age.
